How long have you been in business?
The Animal House opened its doors on June 26, 2003. We brought the concept of indoor playgroups for dogs to the Augusta area.
How large is your facility?
We have 6,200 square feet of indoor, climate-controlled space, not counting our potty area. We have different playgroups for dogs, and a separate room for cats. We have a separate grooming area with elevated tubs, drying stations, and a finishing room.
How many playgroups do you have?
We have 8 playgroups. This allows us the flexibility to arrange our groups to match temperament as well as size.
Do you have enough employees to adequately monitor the dogs?
Yes. At least 2, and normally 3, employees are with and dedicated to watching the dogs at all times. Additional employees work the front counter, groom, clean, and perform office duties.
Is someone at the business at all times?
Yes. In addition to our being open 365 days per year, including holidays, at least one employee is in the building at all times, 24/7.
Do you have an outside play area?
No. While the concept of an outside area sounds good in theory, in practice it’s not so nice. A grassy area will have insects and parasites, and the dog’s “business” will contaminate the muddy ground. An asphalt “play area” reaches dangerously hot temperatures for many months of the year and is too cold for a few more. Finally, our typical customer’s dog doesn’t want to be outside except for potty breaks.
So where do the dogs potty?
We have a separate “potty area” attached to the side of our building. It’s about 600 square feet, totally enclosed, ventilated, with wood chips on a cement floor. Each playgroup of dogs goes out to a cleaned potty area on a constant rotation, so that every dog goes out 10-15 times per day.
Do you require reservations for day care?
No. We know that everyone’s schedule changes minute by minute; who can plan? Once your dog has passed his or her Temperament Test, bring them in anytime. And remember; we’re open every day of the year! We do require reservations (or at least a call ahead) for boarding and grooming.
Will you administer medication?
Yes. We will gladly administer all medications except for injectable medications such as insulin. Overly complicated or excessive medication may result in an additional charge.
Do you discriminate against certain breeds?
Absolutely not! Every dog is treated as a unique individual.
